Obligatory post for the year.
No photos, no proof – new computer, infected old one, withdrawing from social media.
Fiber front: finished a big blobby purple-ish handspun vest that is more poncho than vest, an orange-ish handspun pullover that might need a bottom ribbing re-do but I generally like it, half a sweater quantity of atomic colored handspun, the start of a green thin cotton woven blanket, much mending, almost no quilting, a quick spin to make a not-that-quick medium shawlette thingie, finished a long suffering scarf knit (but put it someplace I can’t find now), a green bobble pullover that was mostly done the year before, an utter failure to weave mohair (but may start trying to knit the scraps soon), and more on the four pair of socks started in 2024 – I may finish one of them in the next couple days though.
Other making stuff: thinking of miniatures but not making much beyond a porch glider that I really dig, rehabbed the cabinet and treadle sewing machine, and made more weaving shuttles.
Garden front: gave up on weeding – was rewarded with an explosion of native wildflowers – multiple asters, joe pye weed, boneset, iron weed, golden rods, and more, so transplanted many of them to the yard and planning not to weed again this year. Dried beans did really well, found zucc that survived SVB but didn’t taste superb, but good enough; beets failed, and tomatoes are really not great anymore despite solarizing a couple beds the year before. Figs are insane, birds not sharing blueberries, strawberries are 20 feet from where they began, a bunny now lives and breeds within the garden fence.
Life front: work grant got cancelled, got reinstated, didn’t get paid during gov shutdown, started getting paid again but now legit going to end in a few months, so back to pounding the pavement (though not too hard because health insurance costs).
